MIRROR MOSAIC WATER BASIN
Birds just love this water basin or shallow birdbath that can be placed on a stump, a stack of bricks, or on a small pile of stones..even an overturned flower pot. Make it the first session and clean it up and decorate the second.
The Hypertufa Studio offers a hands-on experience making Steve’s “green” version of HYPERTUFA, a mix of cement, sand, recycled paper fiber and water. You’ll mix, mold and sculpt concrete and hypertufa into unique and functional garden art including a layered rubble box planter, circular bowl with bird, a cast leaf water basin, cast leaves, a mosaic collage stepping stone, and a set of three hypertufa mushrooms. Most participants take home 4-5 finished projects from this two-day session on Saturday and Sunday.
The Recycled Handmade Paper Studio provides a hands-on exploration of the craft of hand papermaking using natural flowers and leaves from the garden and recycled materials. Papers made with garden herbs are especially enticing because they are also naturally scented. You will learn how to make your own paper with the pouring technique and pulp casting. The following day we will use the paper made the day before to make a small hand-bound journal sketchbook. Participants take home sheets of unique papers, a small bound book, and beautiful molded paper bowls. This studio meets for two sessions on Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon. Materials and equipment provided.
CONCRETE AND MIRROR RAIN CHAIN HANGING SCULPTURE
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 18
& SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 19 1-3 PM
Cast a series of shaped leaves in concrete and combine with mirror pieces to create your own unique hanging sculpture that makes a dandy rain chain when hung under a waterspout or an eave that drips water when raining. Component pieces will be cast and prepared in the first session and assembled and completed in the second. Use shimmering metallic paints to accent your rain chain. $65
WOVEN MIXED MEDIA ART BOWL
This colorful project gives you the chance to do some fun, spontaneous painting with bright happy color, rip and cut paper into strips, weave the strips into a woven mat that is shaped into a bowl. Once this has dried, you will do a bit of collage, weave in colored wire and adorn the art bowl with beads and buttons. This is not a bowl you will use for making Jello, but it will make a striking statement hung on your wall.
MOSAIC PEDESTAL BIRDBATH
SATURDAY, AUGUST 28 9-12 NOON
& SUNDAY, AUGUST 29 1-3:30 PM
You will design and construct a mold to cast a hypertufa pedestal and the birdbath that goes on top. It is not your typical birdbath, but more of a beautiful garden sculpture rising to almost chest height. After casting, marbles and pieces of mirrored glass mosaic will be added for striking decoration. This birdbath will make a fantastic focal point in your yard of garden.
